KENYAN POLICE ALLEGEDLY RECEIVED BRIBE TO RELEASE A SUSPECT FROM CUSTODY

Having served ten years in the police, the

accused Gladys Cherono a serving Police

Constable number 96043 stationed at Nairobi

Industrial Area Police Station was charged with

receiving a bribe.

The accused was arrested on Wednesday 27th

of May 2020 at Industrial Area Police Station

and released on a police bond, where she

appeared Before Chief Magistrate Douglas

Ogoti Anti Corruption Court on Thursday 28th

May 2020 and pleaded not guilty to three

counts of receiving a bribe.

It is alleged that on 05th October 2018 Officer

Cherono requested to be given 0.1 million

Kenya shillings, with intent that she will release

a suspect from police custody and there motor

vehicle.

In a separate charge Cherono from Kericho

County and lives in Nairobi Kamukunji Police

Station was alleged to have received 60,000

Kenya shillings to facilitate the release of a

suspect who was in police custody for stealing

a motor vehicle.

Through her Officer of the Court Mr. Kithi the

accused pleaded for lenient bond, she further

informed the court that she is a mother of two,

sole bread winner and she will attend court

whenever required.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti Anti Corruption

Court released Cherono on a bond of 300,000

surety of the same or a cash bail of 150,000

Kenya shillings pending trial.
