KENYA POLICE OFFICER ALLEGED TO BE AL SHABAAB MEMBER

Munyi Ireri (third from right in the photo above )

formerly stationed at Central Police Station

Nairobi County Kenya Central Business District

and now based at Kabete Police Station

Kiambu County was arrested on

allegations of being Al Shabaab associate.

The Police Officer in his 20s together with his

two co accused Jeremiah Ngigi Mburu and Paul

Mwangagi Mutinda were arraigned before

Nairobi’s Senior Principal Magistrate Caroline

Muthoni at Milimani law Court through a

miscellaneous application by the State

Prosecution, requesting for more days to detain

the three respondents, to enable Anti Terror

Police Unit (ATPU) complete their preliminary

investigations.

The three were arraigned at Milimani law Court

Nairobi County Kenya on Monday 04th May

2020 at 1.31 pm East Africa Time under tight

security, on allegations of being in possession

of property for commission of terrorists act,

contrary to section 6 of the prevention of

terrorism act 2012, stealing contrary to section

275 of the penal code and being in possession

of Government stores contrary to section 324

(3) of penal code.

Where the Duty Court after listening to both

parties the defence and the State granted the

State Prosecution ten more days to complete

their investigations and present the accused

before Court for plea taking on Thursday 14th

May 2020 at 9am East Africa Time to face three

counts of charges.

The hawk eyed Anti Terror Police Unit trailed

the first and the second respondents Mutinda

and Mburu where they were arrested on Friday

01st May 2020 within the Nairobi Central

Business District while on board of a saloon

motor vehicle registration number KCP 208E

make Toyota Rectis, after the landlord (name

withheld for security reasons) to the first

respondent Jeremiah Ngigi Mburu tipped off

the Detectives.

Jeremiah who was residing at AUTUM

apartments in Githurai Nairobi County Kenya

failed to pay his rent arrears from July 2019 to

date and was missing in action for eleven good

months without communicating or even being

seen by his neighbours and landlord, a move

that prompted the owner of the apartment to

brake the door and stumbled on military wares

, police gadgets used during engagement

with the enemies.

Upon seeing the explosives exclusively used by

military, the Landlord alerted Githurai Kimbo

Police Station Officers on the surprise

discovery, where the officers rushed to the

scene and upon further search, the Githurai

Kimbo Police Officers informed the Anti Terror

Police Unit quick response team, who arrived at

the scene , found the following deadly

military hardwares, three smoke grenades,

silver metallic cartridge, two white T shirts with

Al Shabaab writings, Military Cap, Huawei

mobile phone, eight DVDs, five VCR tapes and

assorted goods also recovered.

After the arrest of the first two suspects Mburu

and Mutinda while driving on a saloon car, upon

search by the Anti Terror Police Unit, the hawk

eyed Officers found the two with an active

working Kenya Police Service Radio, four smoke

grenades.

After interrogation of the two, they revealed to

the Detectives that the hardwares belonged to

youthful police officer Martin Munyi Ireri based

at Kabete Police station, Kiambu County Kenya

who was also arrested on the same day of

Labour Day 01st May 2020 at Nairobi Historic

Uhuru Park.

The three suspects faces three serious counts

and if found guilty by the trial court, they can

serve for more than thirty years in the Country

prison.
