IT IS FAITH IN JESUS NOT OBEDIENCE TO THE LAW (JEWISH TRADITION) THAT SAVES

By Fr. Felix (African Times Guest Writer)

This passage really begins with Paul’s final

exhortation, in which he repeats points already

made.

It seems as though some of the intended

recipients are wanting to have their cake and

eat it, to put their faith in Christ but at the same

time accept circumcision (symbol of obedience

to tradition).

There is, however, a sharp dichotomy between

them, to the extent that acceptance of

circumcision constitutes a statement that

Christ is irrelevant.

So Paul repeats that salvation comes through

faith in Christ, with the essential addition

‘working through love’.

We cannot earn salvation; all we can do is hope

for it, but nevertheless, our faith works and is

expressed through love.

The word of the Lord teaches us how the

Special One Son of God, Jesus Christ, gave us

faith that is, life of God in us.

How then can we live both the supreme love of

your Father as well is the mortal life of our

ancestors? Give us true Wisdom to know the

difference.
