HOTPOINT DONATES 0.3M TO PUSH FOR QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE LESS PRIVILEGED

Hotpoint Appliances Ltd donated Kshs. 300,000 to Dignitas for the Adopt a School Program which seeks to push for quality education by empowering teachers and transforming schools in marginalized communities in Kenya.

The donation comes on the heels of Dignitas’ unrelenting efforts to empower educators to lead school transformation that will provide greater opportunities for the next generation.

It will go a long way in providing a holistic improvement of primary schools in marginalized regions in the country to improve their access to qualitative education while impacting positively on learning outcomes.
“Every school should be a thriving environment where children can thrive and grow.

In 2019, like the years before, we are proud to adopt one school for the whole year to ensure that every child gets the right education,” said Shashi Kanani, Director of Hotpoint Appliances Ltd during an interview at an event held Haandi Restaurant, Westlands.

The contribution supports Dignitas partnership with schools, which engages them for a three-to-five-year collaboration by reinforcing their efforts through a program that follows a three-week, classroom-based training for school leaders and teachers, personalized in-school mentoring, targeted group learning opportunities and infrastructural support through small grants and training on resource acquisition and maintenance.

“Through our donation, a partner school will receive personalized support for at least one year and seeing as to how many families have their kids in public schools because they are closer to home, we are privileged to be a part of a family that supports a school that they belong to, a place with quality education and equal opportunities for all in the community,” Mr. Kanani reiterated.

According to Deborah Kimathi, Dignitas Executive Director, through the donations made in 2019, Dignitas will partner with 130 schools and empower 410 school leaders thereby benefitting 35,000 students.

Ms Kimathi also noted that in 2020, Dignitas Adopt a School Program aims to accommodate 120 schools, 450 educators, and 33,000 students.

Since its inception in 2011, Dignitas has benefited more than 53,000 students, and trained over 900 school leaders in 200+ schools stretching from Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, and Laikipia counties as well as South Sudan.

In the past, Hotpoint has partnered with Dignitas on the same initiative as part of its extensive CSR activity that ranges from healthcare, sponsoring needy children in high school and feeding programs in schools around Kenya among others.

The company aims at making contributions to Adopt a School Program on a continuous basis to keep the dream of the provision of quality education across Kenya alive.
