GOVERNOR WAITITU MAN CHARGED WITH TAX EVASION AMOUNTING TO FIVE MILLION

An employee of the Kiambu County Kenya Government was charged before Nairobi’s Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyiot at Milimani Law Courts with tax fraud amounting to Ksh 5 million.
Mr Paul Kibe Wangari, a director of Kibsay Enterprises Limited was charged with eight counts of tax evasion amounting Sh5 million, the accused pleaded not guilty and freed on freed .

Mr. Kibe was allegedly awarded several contracts by the Kiambu County to supply various items and services between 2015-2018 making income of KShs 36 million but failed to declare the amounts earned in VAT Returns filed and neither paid taxes on the income made.

Mr. Kibe made an incorrect statement in the company’s Value Added Tax (VAT) return for the accounting period of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 which affected the company’s tax liability by filing nil returns.

He also failed to pay VAT of Kshs. 206, 897, Kshs. 1, 319, 837, Kshs. 3,483,241 and Kshs. 172, 795 for the years 2015 to 2018 respectively. Mr. Kibe was released on cash bail of Kshs. 100,000 pending directions on 26th November 2019 at 9.30am East Africa Time.
