COVID-19 TWO CHARGED WITH STEALING MASKS

It is only in Kenya the Super power in East and

Central Africa Region where a number of

Citizens will always take advantage of the

situation for beneficial regardless of the

circumstances.

Two male from the Eastern region found

themselves in unfamiliar territory after they

were accused of falsely obtaining coronavirus

pandemic surgical masks fraudulently.

It is alleged that Charles Musembi Nzivani in

his early 40s and his co accused Benson

Mutuku Nzioki in his late 60s, on Wednesday

22nd April 2020 along Moi Avenue within

Nairobi County Kenya, jointly with others not

before Court unlawfully obtained 252 packets

of surgical masks worth over 0.9 million Kenya

shillings from Erick Mwiti Gitiye by falsy

pretending that they were in a position to buy

the products, a fact both the accused knew was

false.

In a separate count the two were accused of

conspiracy to defraud, contrary to section 317

of the penal code and section 313 in the first

count of obtaining , where in the

month of April 22nd along Moi Avenue within

Nairobi County Kenya, the two conspired to

defraud Erick Mwiti 252 packets of surgical

masks to prevent coronavirus pandemic valued

the same amount of money mentioned above.

They were arraigned before Nairobi’s Senior

Principal Magistrate at Milimani lower criminal

court, where they pleaded not guilty to two

counts of conspiracy, obtaining and were freed

on a bond of 0.3 million surety of the same or

a cash bail of 0.1 million Kenya shillings with

two contact persons .

The accused were remanded in Police custody

since the Country Prisons are not admitting

remandees to safeguard the health of other

offenders and Prison warders in Prison facilities

Nationally.
